Horizon Widens – Contemporary Original Art

This painting is all mountain, close, warm and completely present. A great fell fills the full width of the panoramic canvas in deep burnt orange, russet and dark green, its surface richly worked and textured, the colour of bracken in autumn light or iron-rich rock after rain. Dark trees press in from both sides, white birch marks catching the eye at the edges. Rocky ground anchors the lower right with a solidity that matches the mountain above. And at the very top, just visible, a thin band of cool turquoise sky opens above the ridge line, present but unhurried, as though it has been there all along, simply waiting to be noticed.

That sliver of sky is what the painting is about. The mountain is not small, it fills everything, demands everything, takes up every part of the frame. And yet the horizon is still there. Still widening, still opening, still offering more than the immediate weight of things allows you to see. Horizon Widens is about the capacity to hold both at once, the full scale of what is difficult and immediate, and the knowledge that beyond it, sky exists. Space exists. The horizon keeps going even when you cannot see past what is directly in front of you. Hung in your home across its full panoramic width, it holds that truth steadily, a reminder that the horizon always widens, even when the mountain fills your entire view.
