Wide Horizons

Wide HorizonsThese are paintings for the moments when the land opens out and you can finally breathe. Wide, panoramic views of estuary, tarn, coast and fell, where the eye travels all the way to the edge and keeps going.
I made them standing in the wind and changing light, working fast with ink, acrylic and chalk to catch the feeling of space before it shifted. The long format is deliberate. It asks you to slow down, to look from one side to the other the way you would on a hilltop, and let your shoulders drop.
Some are restless and full of weather, some are still, some burn with autumn colour. Together they are mixed media landscape paintings about space: the room the landscape gives us, and the room we give ourselves.
