Salt and Silence – Contemporary Original Art
This painting has the quality of a coastline at dusk when the last of the visitors have gone. A wide, luminous band of teal and turquoise dominates the centre, rich, layered, alive with internal variation, dark drips moving through it like rain on glass or tide marks on a harbour wall. Above it, deep navy presses down with the weight of an incoming sky. Below, the foreground breaks into raw, gestural marks, black ink, scattered paint, acid yellow pushing through the dark in the lower right like the last light catching on wet rock. The panoramic format stretches the whole scene wide and low, giving the silence room to exist.
That silence is not empty. It is the particular quality of a coastal landscape that has stopped performing, where the sound of water and wind and salt air fills everything so completely that the usual noise of the mind simply can’t compete.
