The tide pulls back and the light comes in low and gold across the grasses. A windswept moment on the Welsh coast, held in charcoal and ink.
I made this standing at the edge of the estuary as the water drew away, leaving that pale silver line where the sea gives way to sand. The wind was relentless that day. You can feel it in the sky, in the looping graphite marks and the ink that spattered as I worked.
Returning to the piece in the studio, I wanted to bring back the warmth I remember underfoot: the ochre and mustard of the dune grasses catching what little sun broke through, and the brief flare of orange where light touched the far shore. Against the dark weight of the headland and the scrub, that colour feels like a breath let out.
Ebb Line, Ynys is about the in-between: the moment the tide turns, the quiet after the push, and the ground that is revealed when the water steps back.
