Junction 36 ART FAIR

I am one of the organisers of the Junction 36 Art Fair.

I didn’t set out to organise an art fair. I set out to make art, and somewhere along the way I noticed how much of that work happens alone: in a studio, on a headland, in a van full of paintings driving to a show that might sell three pieces or none.

As part of Green Door Artists, a group of us naturally came together to make this idea a reality.

Junction 36 came from wanting something different for the artists around us. A place where the work gets seen properly, where visitors can talk to the person who made the piece in front of them, and where the fair itself feels like part of the region’s creative life rather than a one-off event that disappears until next year.

As an organiser, my role isn’t to just be the artist in the room. It’s to build the room: to bring together a strong group of makers, make sure the space does justice to the work, and get the right people through the door. Green Door Artists gave me the structure to do that properly, with other artists who care as much as I do about making this fair worth the effort it takes to put on.

I still paint and I am part of the fair as an artist on stand 29. But when I’m wearing my organiser hat, my job is to make sure everyone else’s work gets its moment too.
